The country is to extend the current nine-year compulsory education to encompass high school students nationwide by 2020, according to a guideline recently released by the Ministry of Education and other three ministries.The Guideline for Popularizing High School Education (2017-20), released early this month, aims to raise the gross enrolment ratio for high schools to above 90 percent on average nationwide with rates in central and western China substantially improved.

Police in Pennsylvania are investigating the death of a New York City college student during a fraternity ritual.
The Monroe County District Attorney's office said in a statement Wednesday that 19-year-old Chen "Michael" Deng was brought to a Wilkes-Barre hospital early Sunday morning in critical condition. Police said Deng was injured at a Tunkhannock Township residence, where about 30 members of the Pi Delta Psi fraternity had traveled for the weekend. The township is in northeastern Pennsylvania, about 30 miles north of Allentown Karson Choi.

According to a source close to the talks, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and the Justice Department have reached a tentative $13 billion agreement.
WASHINGTON — JPMorgan Chase & Co has reached a tentative $13 billion agreement with the Justice Department to settle government agency investigations into bad mortgage loans the bank sold to investors before the financial crisis, a source said Saturday.
The tentative deal does not release the bank from criminal liability for some of the mortgages it packaged into bonds and sold to investors, a factor that had been a major sticking point in the discussions, the source said otterbox iPhone 5/5S case.

NEW RESEARCH HAS found that just a third of voices on radio news and current affairs coverage across the country’s three main stations are female.
Research by the Women on Air group has found that in one week two-thirds of the voices on news and current affairs coverage on RTÉ Radio One, Today FM and Newstalk were male.
Overall 33 per cent of voices on air during the seven day period were female with this falling to 26 per cent in the case of political shows.

Ms Parata announced on Wednesday that seven Christchurch primary and intermediate schools will close outright garage storage cabinets, three primary schools will merge, and three secondary schools - Hornby High, Hillmorton High and Linwood College - will expand to take year 7 and 8 students.
The principals of Branston, Linwood and Manning intermediates, which are among the seven closures, are concerned the high schools won't be ready to accommodate younger students from January 2014.
Branston Intermediate principal Jennifer O'Leary told Radio New Zealand many of her school's students will head to Hornby High, which needs longer than eight months to prepare.

A Murray Harbour teenager accused of bludgeoning seals on an eastern P.E.I. shore this winter pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in Charlottetown provincial court Tuesday.
Colton Hal Clements, 18, was one of three Kings County teens charged after 50 seals were found dead or dying on a shore near Beach Point in January howa executive gift.
A veterinary pathologist from the Atlantic Veterinary College examined 10 of the carcasses and determined the animals had been bludgeoned elegantboat executive gift.

Mr Marles quit the role as parliamentary secretary for Pacific Island Affairs on Thursday after publicly backing a bid to install former Labor prime minister Kevin Rudd as the nation's PM over Julia Gillard.
The MP from Geelong, Victoria, has made frequent trips to some of Australia's closest neighbours since he was promoted to the job shortly after the 2010 election.
"I love the Pacific and I have loved doing this job," he told Radio Australia after his resignation.

His lawyers said they would appeal against the decision to formally investigate Sarkozy over allegations he took advantage of elderly L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt when she was weakened by poor health.
He was unexpectedly summoned on Thursday to the Bordeaux offices of Jean-Michel Gentil, the judge in charge of the case, for face-to-face encounters with at least four former members of Bettencourt's staff.
The surprise confrontation came over claims he had accepted envelopes stuffed with cash from the world's richest woman to fund his 2007 election campaign.
